Graph of hourly avg kWh electricity output per kW of Solar PV installed in Al Agouzah, Egypt (by season)

Al Agouzah, Giza, Egypt, situated in the Northern Sub Tropics, offers a promising location for solar PV energy generation. The area's geographical position and climate contribute to its potential for harnessing solar power throughout the year, albeit with seasonal variations.

Seasonal Solar Performance

Solar energy production in Al Agouzah fluctuates across the seasons. Summer stands out as the most productive period, with an impressive 8.49 kWh per day for each kilowatt of installed solar capacity. Spring follows closely, generating 7.52 kWh/day. Autumn sees a moderate decline to 5.57 kWh/day, while winter experiences the lowest output at 3.95 kWh/day.

These figures indicate that Al Agouzah is particularly well-suited for solar energy generation during the warmer months. The extended daylight hours and clearer skies in summer and spring contribute significantly to the higher energy yields during these seasons.

Optimal Panel Positioning

To maximize year-round solar production in Al Agouzah, Giza, fixed solar panels should be tilted at an angle of 26 degrees facing South. This optimal angle ensures that the panels capture the most sunlight possible throughout the year, accounting for the Earth's elliptical orbit and the location's specific latitude.

Environmental Considerations

While Al Agouzah presents favorable conditions for solar energy production, there are some environmental factors to consider:

  • Dust and sand: The region's arid climate can lead to dust accumulation on solar panels, potentially reducing their efficiency.
  • High temperatures: Extreme heat during summer months may slightly decrease panel efficiency.

To mitigate these issues, regular cleaning of the panels is essential to remove dust buildup. Additionally, installing panels with a slight tilt can help with natural cleaning during occasional rainfall. Choosing high-quality, heat-resistant panels and ensuring proper ventilation can help maintain efficiency during hot periods.

Overall, Al Agouzah's location offers excellent potential for solar PV energy generation, particularly from spring through autumn. With proper installation and maintenance, solar panels in this area can provide a reliable and sustainable source of energy throughout the year.

Note: The Northern Sub Tropics extend from 23.5° latitude North up to 35° latitude.

Ideally tilt fixed solar panels 26° South in Al Agouzah, Egypt

To maximize your solar PV system's energy output in Al Agouzah, Egypt (Lat/Long 30.0507, 31.2181) throughout the year, you should tilt your panels at an angle of 26° South for fixed panel installations.

As the Earth revolves around the Sun each year, the maximum angle of elevation of the Sun varies by +/- 23.45 degrees from its equinox elevation angle for a particular latitude. Finding the exact optimal angle to maximise solar PV production throughout the year can be challenging, but with careful consideration of historical solar energy and meteorological data for a certain location, it can be done precisely.

We use our own calculation, which incorporates NASA solar and meteorological data for the exact Lat/Long coordinates, to determine the ideal tilt angle of a solar panel that will yield maximum annual solar output. We calculate the optimal angle for each day of the year, taking into account its contribution to the yearly total PV potential at that specific location.

Seasonally adjusted solar panel tilt angles for Al Agouzah, Egypt

If you can adjust the tilt angle of your solar PV panels, please refer to the seasonal tilt angles below for optimal solar energy production in Al Agouzah, Egypt. As mentioned earlier, for fixed-panel solar PV installations, it is optimal to maintain a 26° South tilt angle throughout the year.

Overall Best Summer Angle Overall Best Autumn Angle Overall Best Winter Angle Overall Best Spring Angle
14° South in Summer 35° South in Autumn 45° South in Winter 23° South in Spring

Assuming you can modify the tilt angle of your solar PV panels throughout the year, you can optimize your solar generation in Al Agouzah, Egypt as follows: In Summer, set the angle of your panels to 14° facing South. In Autumn, tilt panels to 35° facing South for maximum generation. During Winter, adjust your solar panels to a 45° angle towards the South for optimal energy production. Lastly, in Spring, position your panels at a 23° angle facing South to capture the most solar energy in Al Agouzah, Egypt.

Our recommendations take into account more than just latitude and Earth's position in its elliptical orbit around the Sun. We also incorporate historical solar and meteorological data from NASA's Prediction of Worldwide Energy Resources (POWER) API to assign a weight to each ideal angle for each day based on its historical contribution to overall solar PV potential during a specific season.

This approach allows us to provide much more accurate recommendations than relying solely on latitude, as it considers unique weather conditions in different locations sharing the same latitude worldwide.

Calculate solar panel row spacing in Al Agouzah, Egypt

We've added a feature to calculate minimum solar panel row spacing by location. Enter your panel size and orientation below to get the minimum spacing in Al Agouzah, Egypt.

Our calculation method

  1. Solar Position:
We determine the Sun's position on the Winter solstice using the location's latitude and solar declination.
  2. Shadow Projection:
We calculate the shadow length cast by panels using trigonometry, considering panel tilt and the Sun's elevation angle.
  3. Minimum Spacing:
We add the shadow length to the horizontal space occupied by tilted panels.

This approach ensures maximum space efficiency while avoiding shading during critical times, as the Winter solstice represents the worst-case scenario for shadow length.

Topography for solar PV around Al Agouzah, Egypt

The area around Al Agouzah, Egypt, located at coordinates 30.0507 latitude and 31.2181 longitude, is characterized by a predominantly flat urban landscape. Al Agouzah is situated in the western part of Greater Cairo, on the west bank of the Nile River. The topography of this region is largely influenced by the Nile Valley, which has shaped the terrain over millennia. The immediate surroundings of Al Agouzah consist of densely populated urban areas with a mix of residential and commercial buildings. The terrain is generally level, with only slight variations in elevation. This flat landscape is typical of the Nile Delta region, where centuries of sediment deposition have created a vast, low-lying plain. To the east of Al Agouzah lies the Nile River, which forms a natural boundary and a slight depression in the landscape. The river's presence has a significant impact on the local topography, creating a narrow strip of fertile land along its banks. This area is more suitable for agriculture than for large-scale solar energy projects due to its valuable agricultural potential and urban development.

Potential Areas for Large-Scale Solar PV

For large-scale solar photovoltaic (PV) installations, it would be more suitable to look beyond the immediate urban area of Al Agouzah and Greater Cairo. The most promising locations for solar energy projects can be found in the desert regions to the west and southwest of Cairo. The Western Desert, which begins approximately 30-40 kilometers west of Al Agouzah, offers vast expanses of flat, arid land that are ideal for solar PV installations. This area receives abundant sunlight throughout the year and has minimal cloud cover, making it highly suitable for solar energy generation. Specific regions that could be considered for large-scale solar PV projects include: 1. The area around the Sixth of October City, located about 30 kilometers southwest of Al Agouzah. This region offers a good balance between proximity to urban infrastructure and available open space. 2. The desert plateau stretching westward from the Giza Governorate. This area provides ample flat terrain with excellent solar exposure. 3. The northern part of the Faiyum Governorate, situated about 100 kilometers southwest of Al Agouzah. This region offers a combination of desert landscape and proximity to existing power infrastructure. These areas benefit from their relatively flat topography, low population density, and high solar irradiance levels. Additionally, they are close enough to major population centers to facilitate power transmission while being far enough from urban areas to avoid land-use conflicts. It's important to note that while these regions offer suitable topography for solar PV installations, any large-scale project would require careful environmental impact assessments and consideration of factors such as grid connectivity, water availability, and potential effects on local ecosystems.
